Carpentry and Joinery Level 1 (17/18)

The course is designed as a starting point for learners intending to pursue a career in the construction industry, focusing on becoming carpenters or joiners. The course covers health, safety and welfare in construction, the principles of construction, information and communication, preparation and use of portable power tools, producing woodworking joints and the maintenance and use of carpentry and joinery hand tools.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    School leavers should have a reasonable level of literacy and numeracy, e.g. GCSE grades 3-1 (formerly D-G).

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Progress to employment within the construction industry, apprenticeship or Level 2 in carpentry and joinery

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    City & Guilds Carpentry and Joinery Level 1.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    3 days week, the course will be practical and classroom based classes, with tutorial, English and maths classes and work placement (we will help with this but the student has to obtain own work placement)

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will complete the units identified through formal assessment consisting of both on-line and paper based exams. All practical work will be assessed and graded by staff delivering the practical elements.
