Carpentry & Joinery Level 1

The Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery course is designed as a starting point for learners intending to pursue a career in the construction industry, focusing on becoming carpenters or joiners. The course also includes work related experience activities which take place throughout the year.

You will learn about health and safety, the principles of construction, preparing and using power tools, producing woodworking joints and maintenance and using carpentry and joinery hand tools.

  • What will be studied

    You will learn about health and safety, the principles of construction, preparing and using power tools, producing woodworking joints and maintenance and using carpentry and joinery hand tools. The course also includes work related experience activities which take place throughout the year.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    A range of GCSE grades 9-2 (formerly A* - E). Motivation and a keen interest in carpentry and joinery is essential.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Upon successful completion of the course you will have the opportunity to advance to the Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery course, or an apprenticeship, or progress into employment within the carpentry and joinery industry.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery

  • How will this course be delivered?

    Practical work is carried out in a workshop environment alongside theory work delivered in a classroom environment.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be required to sit two formal on-line multiple choice assessments, three formal paper based multiple choice assessments and achieve all practical assessment to City and Guilds standards.

    You will be required to supply and wear suitable safety footwear for all practical activities.

  • WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
