Computer and Networking Technicians Level 3 Extended (17/18)

The course has been designed to continue developing the high level skills of a future Technician. The focus of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computer and Networking Technicians course is on practical aspects of IT whilst gaining good background knowledge of the theory behind security and networking. You will gain good knowledge of the practical role of the technician focusing on Troubleshooting and Repair, Installing and Upgrading software, Maintenance of a system and Project Management to completion of a full project task. You will be expected to work practically and safely but will also need to follow this with fully documented evidence of the process. As communication is vital to the role of a technician this will be developed throughout the year. As part of your personal development we will be looking at Higher Education opportunities or employment. This will include guest speakers, visits to University as well as HE days within the College. We will then help you prepare for your next steps.

  • What will be studied
    You will be studying a 9 units over 1 academic year to obtain an additional 90 Credits giving the full Extended Diploma, which will focus on the practical side of the IT industry. The units you will be studying are: IT Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Networked Systems Security Organisational Systems Security Installing and Upgrading Software Project to include planning, design and implementation. Computer Networks Maths and English can also be studied alongside the main programme.
  • What are the entry requirements?
    To apply for a place on this popular course, you need to have completed and passed the first year of the course.
  • Where does this course lead to?
    BSc in IT/Computing BA in Media BA in Business Employment as a Computer Technician
  • What qualifications will be gained?
    At the end of the 2nd year programme, you will achieve a Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Networking and System Support) which is the equivalent of 3 'A’ Levels
  • How will this course be delivered?
    The course is delivered through different tasks, which you work through. You will be taught through presentations, practical demonstrations, 1:1 support and tutorials.
  • How will I be assessed?
    Assessment is via practical assignments, course work, presentations and class work in each unit. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction on successful completion of each unit.
