DJ & Electronic Music Production Level 3 Extended

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in DJ & Electronic Music Production is a highly popular, industry-lead course, which offers learners the opportunity to develop the skillset and knowledge to work within the limitless world of electronic music production and DJ technology. Learners study under the close guidance of industry involved staff, who have many years experience of producing, releasing and DJing electronic music. The programme covers all aspects of electronic music production and DJ culture, which are an integral part of modern music. Using state-of-the-art equipment, the course allows learners the opportunity to develop the skills required to gain employment in the music industry, become a professional music producer and/or DJ, and progress onto higher education. The Level 3 Extended Diploma in DJ & Electronic Music Production is aimed at learners of all ages and levels of experience that have an interest or background in music production and DJ technology/culture. The course is generally, although not exclusively, aimed at students with an interest in all forms of electronic music: including House, Techno, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Electro, R&B and Grime. Although students with other musical interests and backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including musicians, songwriters and DJs. During your time with us you will study across our 3 iMac Music Production Suites and two professional Digital Recording Studios. Using a variety of resources, both hardware and software, from a range of manufactures including Apple, Steinberg, Native Instruments, EMU, Korg, Pioneer, Technics and Tascam. DJ skills will be developed during the course using our course dedicated DJ Suite, offering Pioneer CDJ850s, Pioneer DJM700 Mixer, Technics SL1210 turntables, and Native Instruments Traktor, the digital vinyl system that is used extensively by DJs all over the world.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    5 GCSE’s at grade 4 (formally grade C) or above, which should ideally include English and/or Mathematics. Alternatively you should have successfully have completed a level 2 programme in the subject area with an overall Merit profile. Mature learners will be considered on an individual basis. A passion for the subject and the potential to work well independently and the ability to work well with others is essential.

    You will need to attend an interview and an audition or present a portfolio of work as appropriate to the subject area. During this process individual circumstances where learners do not fully meet the entry requirements may be considered.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Many of our learners progress on to our HND in Creative Music Technology or onto other University courses.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners (1 Year) Level 3 Extended Diploma for Music Practitioners (2 Year)

  • How will this course be delivered?

    The course is run across four days Monday – Thursday.

  • How will I be assessed?

    There is a high emphasis on practical work. A large number of the units are assessed practically with elements of written essays, reports, presentations and 1-2-1 tutor assessments.

    The course can be studied as a 1 year 90 credit subsidiary, which can allow mature students (19+) a quicker entry route onto our HND in Creative Music Technology.
