The Level 1 Creative and Performing Arts is a new addition to courses offered in Creative Industries. This course is specifically designed to give learners who have not achieved basic education level, do not hold any prior qualifications or have a special educational needs the chance to follow a career in the Creative Industries, develop their skills including Maths and English and progress on to higher levels of study. The course is very specific in terms of the units offered which are very much industry based, while at the same time give a rich and varied scope of creative performance techniques. This is a very practical course focusing on transferable and vocational skills. This will allow the learner to experience all the many facets of the Performing Arts in order for them to create a solid foundation for further study, may that be dance, musical theatre or acting pathways. This could also include music pathways. The course is very much performance based, the learner will be working alongside other level 1 learners all gaining experience and training in the areas of dance, acting and singing and also includes a unit, Planning a Career, that will heighten research skills and promote an understanding of theory. Student support will be a very integral part of the course, which will be tailored to the learner’s specific needs at all times. The learner will also have many other opportunities to gain experience when collaborating and working alongside higher level learners when taking part in production processes and extra-curricular activities/classes.
