Dressmaking/Soft Furnishing/Patchwork

An opportunity for the absolute beginner or more experienced person to explore any of these skills. Content includes:

For Dressmaking:

  • Advice on fabric and cutting out the correct size
  • Customizing a pattern and reading a pattern and instructions
  • Samples of zips, buttonholes, seams, hems pleats, gathers and over locking

For Soft Furnishing:

  • Students can learn about the sewing machine and what attachments to use
  • Frills, piping, zips, buttonholes, pleats, hemming and making cords

  • How to get a place?

  • Other Information:

    New students are advised to buy a skirt or simple top pattern and bring to the first or second class. Also needles, thread, dressmaking scissors and a tape measure will be required. Students who have experience with either soft furnishing, patchwork or fashion may join and work on a project different from others.
