The electrical installation industry is an evolving, progressive area with a high demand for qualified and passionate people, with skills and knowledge of the latest developments in this expanding sector of the construction environment. The programme has been designed to develop a range of high level skills and a good knowledge of the electrotechnical industry. The course helps the candidate to prepare to work safely within the electrical installation trade using modern tools and equipment, it also introduces basic electrical principles, installation and testing techniques and communication across the industry. Candidates will have the opportunity to construct and test electrical circuits covering a range of domestic, commercial and light industrial installations. Whilst in college the assessments will be a combination of both internal exams throughout the course via completion of practical tasks and written assessments, as well as C&G Evolve online examinations. Industry trained tutors provide both practical and theoretical study sessions using a blend of teaching and learning techniques. Successful completion of the course enables the candidate to progress to the Level 3 Diploma or may be used towards the entry requirements of the L3 apprenticeship scheme, or other diverse areas such as data/communication engineering, systems control and electrical maintenance.
You will be studying 5 units over 1 academic year The course units include Health and safety in building services Principles of electrical science Electrical Installations Technology Installation of wiring systems and enclosures Communication within the industry In addition to the units you will also be expected to undertake a set number of hours of work experience (preferably in the industry) Maths and English can also be studied alongside the main programme.
To apply for a place on this popular course, you need to hold at least 3 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade 4 (formerly Grade C). You should not have any colour impairment with your vision, ideally be able to work at height and be practically minded.
C&G2365-03 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) You will need to pass the first year of the course to progress onto the second year.
C&G2365-02 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)
3 days week, the course will be practical and classroom based classes, with tutorial, English and maths classes and work placement (we will help with this but the student has to obtain own work placement)
All units will either be internally assessed throughout the course via completion of practical tasks and written assessments. Assessment is also via C&G E-volve online exams.
Places on the course are offered by meeting entry requirements, providing a suitable reference and attending an interview.
Safety footwear is required, we will supply additional PPE. You will also need to have the following equipment: Casio fx85 scientific calculator, protractor and a 300mm ruler. A4 folder and lined paper, writing pens, pencils set, of coloured pens for drawing wiring diagrams and a mathematics geometry set.
