Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development)

The 180 credit Extended Diploma is the follow-on to our 90 credit diploma. The majority of the second year is taken up with extended projects that build on the skills learnt in the first year. Projects involve production of two 2D games, a 3D game, a 3D animation and game story.

  • What will be studied

    You will be studying nine units over the year including units: 3D animation Games engines Critical analysis Story development 3D environments

  • What are the entry requirements?

    You must successfully complete the one year course: Level 3 Diploma in Games Design and Development (90 credit).

  • Where does this course lead to?

    BSc or BA in a games-related degree (games programming, games art, games design etc.) BSc in Computer-related degree, e.g. Computer Science. BA in a media-related degree, e.g. visual effects, graphic design, web design.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    You will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development). This is equivalent to 3 full A levels. This will build on the 90 Credit Diploma (equivalent to 3 AS levels) from year one.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    Classes are a mixture of theory and practical classes. Assessment is by coursework and you can usually base your coursework around your own ideas for games. You will be taught through presentations, practical demonstrations, 1:1 support and tutorials and group critiques.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You must complete all nine units to pass the course. Assessment is via practical assignments, course work, presentations and class work in each unit. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each completed unit.

  • How to get a place?

    Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Games Design and Development (90 Credit).

  • Other Information:

    You have the opportunity to work on extra-curricular projects as part of our independent games studio ‘Visual Dynamic’. Gain valuable experience for your C.V. working with real clients wanting real solutions for real projects.
