The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a qualification that has been designed to introduce you to the complete range of practical hairdressing skills and will act as the foundation for you to progress onto the next level of vocational learning at level 2. Throughout this qualification you will develop your skills of shampooing, blow-drying and styling women\\\'s hair. You will also develop your knowledge of different hair types and health and safety requirements and how to present yourself within the hairdressing industry. You will learn how to section hair effectively and how to apply temporary colour. These skills and knowledge will together prepare you for the next level of vocational study.

  • What will be studied

    You will cover a range of units over the duration of the course. The units in this qualification include: • Introduction to the hair and beauty industry • Presenting a professional image • Working with others in the salon • Salon reception • Create and maintain retail displays in the salon • Shampooing and conditioning hair • Styling women\\\'s hair • The art of dressing hair • Applying temporary colour • Create a hair and beauty image • Plaiting hair • Promoting products and services to clients

  • What are the entry requirements?

    Under 19s are required to supply evidence of four GCSEs at grade F or above (including English and three other academic subjects). A good standard of education is essential.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing

  • How will this course be delivered?

    The course is delivered through practical, theory and tutorial sessions. You will receive practical demonstrations and theory input to develop your knowledge and understanding and prepare you for assessment and examinations.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will have continuous practical assessments, assignments and online examinations. Work experience is included as well as Functional skills or GCSE Math and /or English as required.

  • How to get a place?

    You can apply by completing an application form available online or from college. You will be asked to attend for an interview and provide a written task along with a reference.

    College uniform and kit is required.
