The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a hairdresser. Throughout this qualification you will ensure responsibility to reduce risks to health and safety, give customers a positive impression, advise and consult with clients, shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, change hair colour, cut hair using basic techniques, style and finish hair and set and dress hair. We do offer trips and other enrichment activities which you will be informed about by your personal tutor. You will have the opportunity to enter external competitions
The course covers all aspects of working in a unisex hairdressing salon. Learning outcomes for this qualification include: • Health & Safety • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and organisation. • Cut hair using basic techniques • Advice and consult with clients • Shampooing and conditioning hair • Change hair colour • Style and finish hair • Set and dress hair • Perm and neutralise hair
Under 19’s are required to supply evidence of four GCSEs at grade F or above (including English and three other academic subjects) and level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing. Mature learners are welcome. A good standard of education is essential.
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. Career opportunities as a junior stylist exist in a variety of contexts, including: - Commercial salons - Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings - Product manufacturing and training - Television, film, theatre and media - Armed services - HM prison service - Cruise liners - Hospitals/care homes

The course is delivered over 3 days a week. However, workplace will be carried out for 1 day a week for a period of 10 weeks additional to your timetable.
These qualifications have a practical approach to assessment and learners are assessed through a mixture of observation by the tutors, 2/3 projects and 5/6 online tests. Functional skills or GCSE Maths and English are also included.
You can apply by completing an application form available online or from college. You will be asked to attend for an interview and provide a written task along with a reference.
