Hairdressing Level 3

The Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is a technical level qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed hairdresser/stylist. This qualification is based on Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's lead hairdressing professional association (The Hairdressing Council) to prepare learners for a career as a senior hairdresser/stylist. Learners should hold a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing prior to undertaking this qualification.

The qualification requires learners to work in a commercial hairdressing salon whereby assessments must be carried out on real paying clients in line with commercial service times.

Course content covers all aspects of working in a unisex hairdressing salon including creative cutting, hair colour and colour correction, styling and dressing hair for a variety of looks, applying and removing hair extensions, advice, consultation and health and safety and organising a hair show or photo shoot.

  • What will be studied

    Level 2 Hairdressing or equivalent.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a senior hairdresser/stylist, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by undertaking advanced specialist qualifications at Level 4, including: VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management (QCF), A1 Assessor Award, Teacher Training Certificate.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    The course is delivered through practical, theory and tutorial sessions

    You will receive practical demonstrations and theory input to develop your knowledge and understanding and prepare you for assessment and examination.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will have continuous practical assessments, assignments and online examinations. Work experience is included as well as Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and / or English as required
