Information Technology for the Workplace Level 1 (17/18)

The course has been designed to develop your understanding of working within the IT sector. You will complete a Level 1 Certificate in Workskills and a Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (ITQ). The course introduces you to all the packages and their use in the work environment, whilst giving you experience of working to a client brief. You will also develop your personal skills, such as team working, self-assessment to prepare you for the world of work as well as allowing you to look at career progression. It is an excellent start to a career in IT while developing your personal skills.

  • What will be studied
    You will be studying a variety of units over 1 academic year. Your course will not only cover the standard software packages such as Word, Excel, Publisher and Powerpoint but will also focus on improving your employability skills to help you develop you employment prospects. Examples of Units you will be studying are: -Contributing to and Taking notes at meetings -Working in a team -Self assessment -Career Progression Maths and English will also be studied alongside the main course.
  • What are the entry requirements?
    Although there are no formal entry requirements for the course a reasonable level of literacy and numeracy is required and an enthusiasm for the subject. An appropriate reference is required.
  • Where does this course lead to?
    Level 2 Diploma in Information Technology Level 2 Diploma in Games Design
  • What qualifications will be gained?
    At the end of the 1 year programme, you will achieve a BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Workskills and a BTEC Level 1Certificate for IT Users (ITQ)
  • How will this course be delivered?
    The course is delivered through different tasks, which you work through. You will be taught through presentations, practical demonstrations, 1:1 support and tutorials.
  • How will I be assessed?
    Assessment is via practical assignments, course work, presentations and class work in each unit. You will be awarded a Pass on successful completion of each unit.
  • How to get a place?
    Places on the course are offered by meeting entry requirements, successful interview and a suitable reference.

    Work related experience activities will take place throughout the year
