Do you love all things Musical Theatre? Do you dream of being on the West End or Broadway? If the answer is yes, then this course is for you! This intensive Level 3 qualification will provide you with training in a professional capacity by industry specialists. In classes and through workshops you will gain a strong technical grounding in singing, acting and dance, along with professional development and enrichment studies.
Our approach aims to relate theory to practice, informs the development of your own creative vision and enhances lifelong skills for employment within the professional world. Throughout the 2 years, as a developing artist, you are encouraged to be versatile and to critically evaluate your own performance as you grow in confidence and maturity.
Your ever developing skill set will be showcased in a number of productions throughout your training. Previous performances by IGNITE Musical Theatre include Cabaret, Crazy for You, Les Misérables, Anything Goes, Little Shop of Horrors, We Will Rock You, Sweet Charity and Footloose. In addition to these large scale musicals, you will take part in the IGNITE Musical Theatre Showcase at the end of your second year, to celebrate your development as an individual performer.

What will be studied
You will study a variety of units over 2 academic years to obtain your Extended Diploma.
Year 1 is predominantly focussed on ‘Craft Development’, where you will gain an equal understanding of all disciplines and begin to develop your skills:
- Singing Technique (using the professional industry standard Estill Voice Model)

Year 2 focuses on ‘Artistry and Performance’, where you will undertake additional units to enhance and finesse your skills, as a developing artist, whilst preparing for Drama School and University Auditions:

- Classical Acting

- Commercial Dance
- Musical Theatre Auditions

Throughout your 2 years of training, individual Singing Technique and Audition Preparation sessions are available in addition to the full-time timetable.
What are the entry requirements?
To apply for a place on this highly popular course, you need to hold at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (formerly grade C), or above, which should ideally include English and Maths. Alternatively the completion of a Level 2 qualification in the subject with an overall Merit profile.
A passion for the subject and the potential to work well independently and with others, is essential.
You will need to attend an interview and audition or present a portfolio of work appropriate to the subject area. During this process, individual circumstances where learners do not fully meet the entry requirements may be considered.

Progression from this course can lead to professional training at prestigious Musical Theatre and Dance schools, such as Guildford School of Acting, Bird College, Laine Theatre Arts, Central School of Speech and Drama, London School of Musical Theatre, ArtsEd, Mountview Academy and outstanding Universities in their field including The Arden School of Theatre, West London, Chichester and RSAMD.
What qualifications will be gained?
At the end of your 2 year training programme, you will achieve an RSL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre. This is equivalent to 3 full A levels.
How will this course be delivered?
This is an intensive full-time study programme and you are required to be at college 5 days a week.
Compulsory evening rehearsals will be timetabled during show terms and busy periods, at the discretion of the course leader.
How will I be assessed?
You must complete all units over the 2 year training programme in order to achieve the full Extended Diploma, however, there are 2 core units which must be completed in the first year.
Units in the second year of training focus on professionally applicable skills and audition preparation, along with an additional Final Production core unit.
Assessment is via practical and performance assignments, course work, presentations and class work within each unit. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each completed unit.
How to get a place?
You will be required to apply online. Places on the course are offered by meeting entry requirements, interview and audition. You will also be expected to attend a minimum of one audition and interview, although call-back auditions may be required. Audition requirements will be supplied on successful application.
IGNITE Musical Theatre make frequent visits to watch live theatre, both locally and on the West End, as well as taking part in external workshops, community performances and charity events.
