Painting and Decorating Level 1 (17/18)

This course helps you prepare to work safely and with confidence in the construction industry with a focus on gaining specialist skills in painting and decorating. You will work to recognised industrial standards and you will gain the underpinning knowledge and skills to prepare you for a career in the industry or as a painter and decorator. During the course you will study health and safety, hardwood finishing, specialist effects, wallpapering and water-based and oil-based paints. You will then be equipped with the skills to progress onto the Level 2 course in Painting and Decorating, or an Apprenticeship.

  • What will be studied

    Health and safety, hardwood or softwood finishing, special effects, wallpapering and water-based and oil-based paints. You’ll also study English and Math’s alongside this course if required.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    There are no formal requirements, however a reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy, a suitable level of general education and an appropriate reference will be required.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Level 2 course, Apprenticeship or employment.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Level 1 City & Guilds in Painting and Decorating.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    3 days week, the course will be practical and classroom based classes, with tutorial, English and maths classes and work placement (we will help with this but the student has to obtain own work placement)

  • How will I be assessed?

    Continuous assessment of practical and theory with end of unit multiple-choice examinations.

  • How to get a place?

    Apply online, an interview will follow.

  • Other Information:

    Safety footwear is required and a decorators bib and brace, we will supply additional PPE.

    Employment in the construction industry or progression onto Level 2.
