Sport and Outdoor Activities continues to be one of the fastest growing employment sectors and consequently offers a vast range of career opportunities with tour operators, tourist boards, leisure centres, hotels and sports clubs as well as in education and health.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science will enable you to develop a range of high level work and life skills including leadership, teamwork, problem solving and decision making that will prepare you for a diverse range of careers within the sports sector.
You will also study the principles of anatomy, fitness training, team and individual sports, coaching and exercise for specific groups and a research project. You will receive tutorials covering aspects such as safeguarding, British values and diversity and advice on further study or employment.
Successful completion of the course will give you the opportunity to enter into various job roles within the sport and outdoor sector, or you could progress to university to study subjects which could include Physiotherapy, Nutritionist, Sports Coach, Sports Psychologist.
You will continue to study a wide range of content all designed to prepare you for life in the workplace this includes leadership and teamwork, Principles of Anatomy, fitness training, team and individual sports, Research Project, coaching and exercise for specific groups, if not completed in year 1 you will gain work experience in an industry related setting. You will receive tutorials covering aspects such as safeguarding, British values and diversity.
To apply for a place on this highly popular course, you need to hold at least 4 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 (formerly C) or above, preferably including Science, English and Maths. You should be able to work as part of a team as well as being independent and willing to experience and explore new things.
Progression from the 90 credit diploma leads to a 2nd year on an extended diploma 180 credit course.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. This is equivalent to 3 full A levels.
The course is delivered over 3 days through different methods including presentations, practical activity and demonstrations, 1:1 support and tutorials and group work. Extended hours will be required when attending day visits and residential trips.
You must complete 18 units in order to achieve the Extended Diploma qualification ( 9 Units will be completed in the first year programme)
The second year of study on the Extended Diploma covers another 9 units.
Assessment is via continual assessment using practical assignments, physical tasks, course work, presentations and class work in each unit. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each completed Unit.

During the first year you will take part in two residential visits together with numerous visits to fitness and outdoor establishments. Course fees of £250 and a course polo shirt and Hoodie are required to be purchased from our on line supplier if not purchased in year 1.
