Sport and Outdoor Activities continues to be one of the fastest growing employment sectors and consequently offers a vast range of career opportunities with Tour operators, Tourist Boards, leisure centres, Hotels and Sports clubs as well as Education and Health. This course will enable you to develop a range of high level work and life skills including leadership, teamwork, problem solving and decision making that will prepare you for a diverse range of careers within the outdoor sports sector.
You will study a wide range of content all designed to prepare you for life in the workplace, this includes leadership and teamwork, Principles of Anatomy, fitness training, Outdoor principles and practices, water and land based activities and work experience in an industry related setting. You will receive tutorials covering aspects such as safeguarding, British values and diversity.
To apply for a place on this highly popular course, you need to hold at least 4 GCSEs or equivilant at grade \\\\\\\'C\\\\\\\' or above, preferably including English and Maths. You should be able to work as part of a team as well as being independent and willing to experiience and explore new things.
Progression from the 90 credit diploma leads to a 2nd year on an extended diploma 180 credit course.
At the end of the first year you will achieve the 90 credit diploma in Sport outdoor Leisure, (equivalent to 3 AS levels) this leads in to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, Outdoor leisure on completion of year 2. This is equivalent to 3 full A levels.
The course is delivered over 3 days through different methods including presentations, practical actiity and demonstrations, 1:1 support and tutorials and group work. Extended hours will be required when attending day visits and residential trips.
You must complete all 9 Units in the first year year programme in order to achieve the 90 credit Diploma. The second year of study on the Extended Diploma covers another 9 Units. Assessment is via continual assessment using practical assignments, physical tasks, course work, presentations and class work in each unit. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each completed Unit.
Places on the course are offered by meeting entry requirements, and course interview with one of the tutors.
During the first year you will take part in two residential visits together with numerous visits to fitness and outdoor establishments. Course fees of £250 and a course polo shirt and Hoodie are required to be purchased from our on line supplier. You will also be given the opportunity to achieve national Governing Body awards in activities such as Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking and kayaking and canoeing which may incur additional small charges for log books.
