Art & Design Diploma – Level 2

KC's one year Level 1/ Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design provides an introductory experience which will help you to develop practical, problem solving and research skills, together with improving confidence, communication and to learn about progression opportunities in art and design.

This course provides you with a basic introduction to drawing, painting, 3D, digital and various approaches to art and design. With a personal workspace, you'll learn through experimentation using a broad range of 2D and 3D processes. Projects will help you to gain a contextual understanding of historical and contemporary art and design and support you to make and articulate personal connections and interpretations. You'll have the opportunity to improve your communication and presentation skills through taking part in group critiques and student exhibitions.

  • What will be studied

    Modules include;

    • Materials, Processes and Technical Skills
    • Contextual Research
    • Verbal and Non-verbal Communication Skills
    • Solving 2D, 3D and time-based Creative Problems
    • Creating a portfolio of artwork for progression.
  • What are the entry requirements?
    • 5 GCSE's grade 3 - 9, including Maths and English, and a grade 4 and above in GCSE Art or a related subject (Textiles, Photography, Design Technology, Graphics)
    • An artistic flair and creativity is essential
    • A portfolio showcasing your breadth of skill and knowledge in Art and Design
  • Where does this course lead to?

    After completing KC's Art & Design Level 2 Diploma you can then progress onto:

    • Level 3 BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design
    • Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design
  • What qualifications will be gained?
    • BTEC Level 1 First Diploma in Art and Design (Pass)
    • BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Art and Design ( PP TO D*D*)
  • How will this course be delivered?

    This innovative course course will be delivered in:

    • One of our Art Studios
    • IT suite
    • Outside environments
    • Home as Independent study.

    The study programme, including Maths, English and tutorials, will run 4 days a week.


    Classes generally run between the hours of 9.00am-5.00pm. but may vary. 

    The course will be delivered by our 2 specialist Art and Design Tutors.

  • How will I be assessed?

    This course will be assessed with a blend of Internally assessed units and two external examinations

    Learners will take a total of 11-13 Units:

    •  7 Mandatory Units
    • 4-6 Optional Specialism Units (Selected by the Course Tutors)

    KC Art & Design students will be required to have a basic Art Kit list including:

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Fine liners
    • Oil pastels
    • Basic acrylic colours
    • Water colour
    • Brushes
    • Mark making tools
    • Glue

    • Ruler
    • A sketchbook (cartridge paper) for each unit.
