MAS RECORDS

MAS Records has been based at Kidderminster College for the past two decades.

In 2000 Kevyn Gammond, co-founder with patrons Robert Plant and Karl Hyde (Underworkd/Brian Eno), set up the Artist Development Programme; a connection between Education and the Music Industry, creating opportunities for students to think afresh about designing their studies, life and work for careers in the Music and Creative Industries.

Kevyn Gammond had previously opened up new routes in education by challenging conventional paths.  The 1990’s saw the Kidderminster College Music Department create the first BTEC and OCN music courses in the UK.  These courses were Music Technology, Music Performance and Music Management.

MAS was instrumental in encouraging students to look well beyond the sixth form pathways and more into a journey with opportunities and specific needs for today’s Music Industry.

In 2018 the MAS Records model in education, where successful artists of one generation support those of the next, has built bridges across the UK with twelve MAS satellite centres delivering free artist development services.

The MAS Team have received many awards for transforming how it delivers music education to meet the needs of our learners in today’s industry. MAS continues to expand and provide opportunities within the Music Industry and also continues to collaborate with others involved in this industry.

These include:

  • 2004 – Clifford T Ward National Award for Songwriters, which was a massive success and received much national and international acclaim.
  • 2006 – European Social Fund for Exceptional Services in Education
  • 2008 – Rockschool (RSL) Most Innovative Course in the UK (see Robert Plant’s comment on the MAS website – www.masrecords.org
  • 2009 – Prince Edward’s visit to MAS at Kidderminster College

  • 2010/2011 – Partnered with RSL to showcase emerging bands at SXSW in Austin, Texas, which is one of the largest global music events
  • 2012 – RSL Special Recognition Award
  • 2013 – MAS continues its nationwide expansion with centres opening in Leeds and Liverpool
  • 2016 – MAS Records record plaque was displayed in the centre of Kidderminster to honour the work of MAS Records
  • 2017 – Continued expansion with further centres opening, including one in Southampton. This year also saw a record number of students joining the MAS programme.
  • 2018 – London Centre to be opened in September, and Scott Garrett to introduce Music Gateway, the online gateway to the Music Industry. This will provide innovative networks of music professionals for our learners.
